Don't Get Caught Up

Don't Get Caught Up

Why did I start Create Your Game? It all started back in August 1997 right before I began my first job at Texas instruments as an electrical engineer. I visited my best friend‘s father Mr. Jerry Taylor who lived in my hometown Mission, Tx. He shared with me that when I start working in corporate America, he wanted me to make sure that I did not get caught up in the racism bull$4@!. I was kind of shocked when I heard him say that. Perhaps because I was thinking he’s going tell me to climb the ladder, rub elbows with the Who’s Who and make a name for myself. But nope that’s not the advice I received. The advice I received would chart the direction for the rest of my life.

Mr. Taylor told me to play the game! In my young 24 year old mind, I said to myself,  there’s actually a game played in corporate America?? He said play to win. He went on to further say, B.J. after you play the game learn the rules. Pay attention. Take notes. Be aware of everything that is going on around you. He said that during this process there will be ups and downs. He explained many times I wouldn’t even know what was going on. He said B.J. ,this is the most important part of the journey. It is important for you to learn. He said you will learn from failure just as much as you will learn from your failures. And guess what, I have learned a lot through my successes. I’ve learned by best lessons through some my deepest and darkest failures. Last, he said once you have learned the game,  get out and create your own.

Create Your Game is a charge I received from Mr. Taylor it took me nearly 30 years to get here and guess what, I’m here and I’m taking full advantage of what I’ve learned. My goal is to make sure that everyone who joins me on this journey will be able to learn from every experience in life. Whether you’re in corporate America, the private sector, the social services industry or you are in between opportunities, you can play, learn and create your own. Create Your Game is going to use the life stories of historians worldwide to learn these principles. I believe that know matter where you are in this world we live, there are people who were the initiators of change and innovation. There were people responsible for positive change. People followed behind these trail blazers resulting in success.

My plan is to do research and find out who these people are some of them will be well-known, while others will be hidden treasures. The whole idea for us to learn from our historians so we can propel our society forward. I look forward to hearing from you guys. If you have any questions hit me up. My brothers and sisters let’s create our game. #CreateYourGame
